Tips For Maintaining Good Oral Health Habits While Traveling
Do you have any upcoming travel plans? We love hearing about all of your wonderful trips and vacations. Traveling can be exciting and fun, but it’s important to continue to care for your oral health while you are away. We would hate for you to relax your routine or forget an important dental care item and experience complications as a result. We want to share some oral health tips to keep in mind for your next trip:
Travel Dental Kit
We recommend packing any supplies you need for your oral health when you travel. This includes toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash. If you are traveling by plane, be sure to follow the guidelines for the correct sizes to pack. Depending on your destination, finding the dental care items you need can be difficult, especially if you do not have a vehicle. It is imperative that you pack any hardware you use regularly for your oral health, such as your clear aligner trays, oral appliance, or nightguard. Not bringing these essential items can disrupt your treatment plan.
Increase Water Consumption
If you are traveling to a hot-weather destination, you should drink plenty of water to keep from becoming dehydrated. Water will also help prevent dry mouth if you are indulging in alcoholic beverages. If you travels take you to a place with an unreliable or unsafe water supply, use drink bottled water and use it for brushing your teeth and rinsing too. Bacteria from contaminated water on your toothbrush or in your cup can enter your body and cause health problems.
Maintain Your Oral Hygiene Routine
Be sure to maintain your oral hygiene routine while traveling. We know that vacation is a time when people enjoy late nights and indulge in rich food they wouldn’t otherwise have at home, but they still need to clean their teeth. Bacteria can build up quickly and lead to decay.
If you are traveling in the near future and have not had an oral hygiene examination in some time, we recommend visiting our office, which is located on the Upper East Side, to schedule an appointment before you leave. We can evaluate your oral health and recommend treatment if necessary. We hope you thoroughly enjoy the rest of the summer. Safe travels!
