As hard as we all try to keep our teeth cavity free, even the most diligent brushers and flossers can’t always prevent tooth decay. When a patient comes in for a routine hygiene examination, one of the main things we look for is the presence of tooth decay. Digital X-rays and other tools help the dentist detect tooth decay early, and when we do find it, our goal is always to treat it as soon as possible to prevent the decay from spreading and creating serious damage to the tooth, also to keep your smile looking good and feeling healthy.
For small to medium cavities, we use directly placed, bonded, tooth-colored fillings—which can be completed in one visit—to seal off cavities, protect the nerves of your teeth and strengthen the remaining tooth structure.
We recommend bonding rather than unsightly metallic fillings because it restores your teeth to their natural appearance and strengthens the tooth instead of just filling the hole. Plus, bonded, tooth-colored fillings don’t expand and contract in response to hot and cold like traditional metal fillings do, making them a much safer long-term solution, as bonded fillings won’t fall out or cause the tooth structure to weaken over time.
While some of our patients may have unpleasant memories of getting fillings in the past, we are here to assure them that the procedure is now much quicker, with little to no discomfort. In fact, most patients barely feel a thing. Additionally, the materials we use are far more advanced, for nearly imperceptible results. Our patients can smile wide knowing that their teeth look great after this restorative treatment.
If you are overdue for a dental checkup or suspect that you may have tooth decay, please contact us right away to schedule an appointment. The sooner we can treat you, the healthier your teeth will stay for the rest of your life.
